Where to eat in Delft by a local for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (2024)

Jacob’s work means that both of us find ourselves in Delft quite often. Luckily, there are some great restaurants in Delft, far beyond the typical tourist fare. I hope that this guide to the best food in Delft helps you find a good and reasonable meal in Delft! I indicate vegan-friendly spots in Delft with a * next to their names to make it easier for those with dietary restrictions!

As a word of warning, not all of these restaurants/cafes in Delft accept non-Dutch cards, so come prepared with some cash. The Netherlands is getting better about credit cards, but we’re not there yet.

De Diamanden Ring

One of my favorite places to stop off for a fresh pastry in Delft is De Diamanten Ring. This famous and historic bakery in Delft doesn’t have any seats, but ono a nice day, I recommend getting a fresh pastry in the morning to go prior to enjoying it with a view of the old church or the canals. You don’t need to sit down to have a quality breakfast.

Stads-Koffyhuis

For a reliable super-Dutch breakfast or lunch, you can drop by the Stads-Koffyhuis. This cozy cafe in Delft sits along one of Delft’s prettiest canals. This is one of the best spots in Delft to order pancakes that are both sweet and savory. You’ll also find delicious little Dutch pancakes called poffertjes (little Dutch pancakes) here if you’re looking for a little indulgence to start off your day in Delft.

LOT. Coffee

This new coffee spot in Delft is known for their specialty coffee and beautiful latte art. They serve specifically beans from the famous 3fe roaster in Dublin, Ireland along with a well-curated mix of pastries and cakes. There is limited seating outside and well as inside, but it makes for a great spot to get coffee to go.

Kek*

My to-go spot for a delicious vegan-friendly Kek. This cafe in Delft does not take reservations and fills up rapidly around lunchtime, so come early to grab a seat. Their vegan-friendly food is absolutely amazing and I struggle always to choose between their sandwiches, salads, and baked goods. The portions are obscene, so choose carefully. Their drinks are delicious too. The line can be long!

Kaas & Wijn

If you’re on a budget and looking for an affordable lunch, I recommend stepping into this cozy cheese store. In the back, you can get a sandwich for very little with fresh meat and/or cheese. It’s hard to get anything more Dutch or find anything as affordable.

Hummus*

Hummus is one of my favorite places to bring guests when they visit Delft. This cozy Middle-Eastern inspired restaurant is 100% vegetarian and vegan-friendly. (Even the “meats” are vegan-friendly!) Not surprisingly, their hummus is delicious, but I always love their sabich and their fresh bread. The prices are reasonable and the service is typically quite good. It’s one of my favorite places to go out for a romantic dinner in Delft.

Day Dream Delft

A newer addition to Delft is Day Dream, which is a Canadian-owned sandwich company specializing in smoked pastrami. Their Montreal-style smoked pastrami is absolutely heavenly especially served with their perfectly salted fries. They also offer poutine. It’s a casual option, but one of my favorites!

Loetje

Loetje is one of the best known sit-down restaurants in the Netherlands, known for their perfect steaks. It’s not the cheapest place, but for high-quality Dutch food, including sate, it is a great option for a nicer night out.

Ramen Nikkou / TonkotsuRamenNikkou

Ramen Nikkou is one of the best ramen places in the Netherlands, hands-down. This slightly cramped ramen restaurant is run by Japanese owners who are very passionate about the art of ramen. They have actually two locations (TonkotsuRamenNikkou) with different ramen specialties. The original Ramen Nikkou focuses on traditional ramen while Tonkotsu Ramen Nikkou (made with pork broth and eggs*). Both locations offer vegetarian and vegan options, but it is best to reserve a spot ahead.

Toko Idola

Whenever I’m in Delft and I’m looking for a quick yet reasonable dinner, I stop by Toko Idola. This small Indonesian toko doesn’t look like much, but its staff is incredibly friendly and the food is delicious. It’s more of a take-out place, but you’re close enough to the canals that you can bring your food with you if you wish to sit outside elsewhere. Inside, you’ll find big tables.

‘t Postkantoor*

For a nice meal in Delft, ‘t Postkantoor is a great choice. They have a nice assortment of something for everyone, including vegan-friendly options (although more limited). It’s a really nice spot for a nice lunch although I think of this restaurant as a really romantic spot for a date as the interior is super gezellig. They have a fixed dinner special for two that costs around 22 euros per person that are meant for sharing. Reserve ahead for a table!

Thuis by Ladera

For Dutch eating at Dutch prices head to Ladera. This cozy restaurant serves traditional Dutch food at reasonable prices, so if you’ve wondered what it’s like to eat at a Dutch person’s home, come here for hardy and delicious portions. Check their Facebook for the latest meal and reserve your seat. This is a great place to try stamppot if they have it that day.
