On her recent visit to the Ludeman Center @CUAnschutz, First Lady Jill Biden met with our team of researchers to discuss their ground-breaking work in women's health research, including David Kao, MD. As an associate professor in the Division of Cardiology, Dr. Kao addressed that some heart failure therapies do not work as well in women as in men. “There are also issues of inequity in access. We have a therapy like a heart pump, and a woman is less likely to be offered that than a man. Even when offered, women are less likely to accept it." As we head into #AlzheimersandBrainAwareness Month, we reflect on the excellent research that has contributed to our understanding of dementia and potential treatments. The Ludeman Center is proud to have funded Kim Bruce, PhD, whose research focuses on understanding how changes in brain metabolism drive neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and multiple sclerosis. Her goal is to design new strategies that restore metabolism to mitigate the disease that disproportionately affects women. https://lnkd.in/gBRsdmdn
